Canyon de Chelly, National Monument, Arizona (From Small Museum Set)

During his many trips to Canyon de Chelly, this along with White House Ruin are among his most recognizable. Made during The Mural Project expedition, he raised the horizon line and used the elongated petrified ripples of the sandstone to lead the eye to the vanishing river below. He called the landscape ‘one of the most beautiful parts of America.’
