Portrait of Ansel Adams

Print Notes

Edward Weston was one of the most important American photographers of his time and the first photographer to ever win the Guggenheim Fellowship Award. On April 8, 1943, Edward wrote Nancy Newhall that he and Ansel had made portraits of each other. He only printed two of the four negatives of Ansel in this spot. The series shows an interesting range of attitudes and emotions reflected in his face and body language. The two both, who both resided in the Carmel Highlands, were friends and of great influence to one another.
